Cristiano Ronaldo departed Manchester United in November last year after an extraordinary interview with Piers Morgan, where he criticised manager Erik ten Hag.

This week, Ronaldo was unveiled as a signing for Saudi Arabia club Al-Nassr, earning a staggering £346 million during his two-year deal.

However, it was only two months ago when the legendary forward explained his desire to continue playing at the top level. “I still believe that I can score many many goals and help the team,” said Ronaldo in his interview with Morgan. “I believe I am still good enough to help my national team, even Manchester United.”

It has been reported by publico that Jorge Mendes, Ronaldo’s agent, was looking for elite clubs that would accept his client for months, however, his conclusion was that Old Trafford was the only option. He was already there, and unhappy about having a secondary role.

Ronaldo and Mendes were in disagreement. When Ronaldo essentially ended his career at United by granting Piers Morgan a revealing interview; it was done against the wishes of the agent.

Following this, according to Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic, Mendes was absent in negotiations with Al-Nassr, with Ronaldo opting for his close friend and personal manager Ricardo Regufe to lead talks with the Saudi club.

The aforementioned report also added that whilst there is still a direct line between player and agent, other elements of Gestifute (Mendes’ company) started to deal with ‘only the right arm’ of the Portuguese.

Meanwhile, Ten Hag’s men are still in desperate need of a replacement for the striker. Anthony Martial is the only natural number nine in the squad and had an injury scare against Bournemouth.

United have turned a positive corner since Ronaldo’s departure. They have won seven on the bounce at Old Trafford and sit a single point behind Manchester City in second place in the Premier League.
