Manchester United braced for Serie A transfer war as Inter Milan CEO ‘initiates contact’ for £26m signing

Manchester United are bracing themselves to field multiple offers for one of their wingers as Inter Milan’s CEO initiates contact with United.

While bringing in new talent has been the priority for Manchester United this summer, many former first-team regulars still need to be sold if Rúben Amorim wants to avoid a very unhappy dressing room next season.

Antony, who impressed while out on loan, is still looking for a move away from the club, and the Brazilian reportedly hasn’t been spotted at Carrington since the squad returned for pre-season training.

Elsewhere, Alejandro Garnacho is eyeing a move away from Old Trafford this summer. The Argentine is unlikely to be accepted back into Amorim’s squad after his very public fallout with the manager towards the end of last season.

Rasmus Højlund has also been linked with a move away this summer, with a return to Italy looking likely for the Danish striker after his poor 10-goal season last year.

Despite numerous players being linked with a move away from the club, attention has remained focused on completing the Bryan Mbeumo deal, with a transfer for the Cameroon international set to be completed this weekend.

Inter Milan join the Sancho hunt

Jadon Sancho, who won the Conference League while on loan at Chelsea, also looks set for a move away this summer, even after Chelsea rejected the chance to sign the Englishman after his loan deal expired.

It was recently reported that Juventus had made an increased offer for Sancho of just under £13 million, but this still falls short of United’s £26 million price tag.

While this hasn’t been officially rejected, Jason Wilcox is unlikely to accept an offer over £10 million lower than the valuation, especially if new clubs join the hunt for Sancho.

Graeme Bailey has reported that Inter Milan have made enquiries about the former Borussia Dortmund winger, with the Italian club on the search for a new wide attacker.

The Inter CEO, Giuseppe Marotta, has been in contact with both United and Sancho to explore the possibility of a move, but many believe Inter will only make an official move for the winger if they are unable to sign Ademola Lookman from Atalanta.

Another case of what could have been

Like so many who have joined the club in recent years, Sancho is another case of what could have been, he had so much talent and United chased him for several summers, but it never quite worked out.

Joining the club at the same time as Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo, the hope was definitely there, but he struggled to reach the heights that he did in Germany.

The club stood by him while he took a break from football, and then he returned to play as an attacking midfielder for Erik ten Hag, scoring in his comeback appearance.

Sancho even fell out with the Dutchman but showed promise in the following pre-season, playing as a false nine for ten Hag, but it appears they will be the last highlights of a difficult time for Sancho, as he most likely moves on this window.
