“Manchester United are quite convinced…” – Fabrizio Romano reveals “complete” star will leave Old Trafford in 2026

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United are set to lose a “complete” star at the end of this season, with the club now “convinced”.

Manchester United have just begun their rebuild under Rúben Amorim. The summer transfer window was positive for United, but issues have remained this season, with the Red Devils still looking less than convincing.

Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo were two brilliant signings in theory, but signing them both has now been questioned due to Bruno Fernandes’ struggles in the double pivot. Perhaps, Jason Wilcox should’ve only signed one and allowed Fernandes to continue in attacking midfield.

Signing Senne Lammens appears to have been a great decision, though. The young Belgian was brilliant on his debut against Sunderland and would be unlucky to be dropped for Altay Bayindir against Liverpool this weekend.

While the incomings were impressive, the outgoings were equally as crucial for United, especially after Amorim created his “Bomb Squad”. Four out of five named in the outcast list – Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho – were moved on from Old Trafford, but Tyrell Malacia couldn’t find a move away.

United also managed to find new clubs for Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund, who weren’t going to be key players after the signings of Lammens and Benjamin Šeško. Outgoings will be crucial going forward, and one already appears to be finalised.

Hojlund set to leave permanently

Hojlund – who has been described as a “complete forward” – departed late in the transfer window for Napoli, to join Scott McTominay and Romelu Lukaku, on a loan with an option to buy. The option can become an obligation if certain clauses are met, but Fabrizio Romano believes Hojlund’s future is already sealed.

“There is an obligation to buy,” Romano said on his YouTube channel. “And I can tell you that Manchester United are quite convinced that that obligation to buy will be triggered for Rasmus Hojlund.

“Hojlund is expected to stay at Napoli. Hojlund is fully expected to be a Napoli player on a permanent transfer from Manchester United.

“The transfer fee is already clear. I told you about that. Let me repeat. It’s €6 million already received by Manchester United as a loan fee. €44 million for the buy option clause becoming an obligation under certain conditions.”

The transfer guru continued to say: “But the expectation again of all parties involved: player, agents, United and Napoli, is for Rasmus Hojlund to stay at Napoli and for Man United to receive a total package of €50 (£43) million for Rasmus Hojlund.

“So that deal is fully expected to happen and that’s going to be obviously important money for Manchester United.”

United must learn from Hojlund mistake with Šeško

Despite the opinions of rival fans and pundits, Šeško has started well in his United career, with two goals in his last two appearances and a lack of service since his arrival.

However, if he continues to start every game – like he has since he proved his fitness – he could fall to the same fate as Hojlund.

Amorim should look to rest Šeško more often to put less pressure on the former RB Leipzig centre forward. Matheus Cunha has already shown he can be a capable alternative through the middle.

Starting Šeško in every game will only mount pressure on his young shoulders and likely cause him to struggle, only hampering himself and United.
