Manchester United set for unexpected cash influx as Premier League star agrees Serie A terms
Manchester United look set to receive an unexpected influx of cash as a Premier League star agrees personal terms for a Serie A move.
Manchester United have been proactive in the summer transfer market, securing Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna for £36 million and the talented 18-year-old defender Leny Yoro from Lille for £52 million.
The acquisition of Yoro has garnered significant praise, with United and INEOS recognised for their strategic move to beat Real Madrid in the race for his signature, indicating their forward-looking aspirations.
Moreover, United have enhanced their defensive lineup by signing Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich, with the deals totalling just over £50 million, before agreeing a deal to sign Manuel Ugarte from Paris St. Germain earlier this week.
However, with the final days of the 2024 summer window now upon us, United are looking to raise as much cash as possible, and they may receive an unexpected payment in the coming days.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, former United centre-back Teden Mengi, who starred for Luton Town last season, has agreed on personal terms to sign for Serie A side Torino.
While some may not see why this is immediately beneficial for United, previous reports have confirmed that they added a sell-on clause to the deal when they sold Mengi to Luton last summer.
According to Simon Peach, United’s sell-on clause was “high”, meaning the club may receive a hige chunk of the fee Luton agree with Torino.
Although Romano explains that the deal has not yet been agreed upon, negotiations are underway, and as the Serie A transfer deadline closes in a few days, United may receive a part of this fee before the end of this week.
