Rúben Amorim ‘decides’ to sell 24 y/o who he tried in a new position during Manchester United training
Rúben Amorim has reportedly decided to sell a 24-year-old Manchester United player despite trialling him in a new position during Monday’s training session.
Rúben Amorim has officially begun his tenure as Manchester United’s head coach, following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag last month.
Announced three weeks ago, Amorim’s appointment was delayed due to a contractual dispute over his release clause with Sporting CP. Now that the matter has been resolved, the 39-year-old has finally arrived to take charge.

In his absence, Ruud van Nistelrooy served as interim manager, overseeing three wins and a draw, which helped United climb slightly in the Premier League and Europa League standings. However, they remain in 13th and 15th places, respectively.
Amorim faces a significant challenge ahead, taking his first training session on Monday morning as he begins the task of turning the club’s season around.
Selling one player
According to the Daily Star, Amorim has already given the green light for the club to sell 24-year-old winger Antony when the transfer window opens.
According to the report, United are willing to either listen to sale offers from the highest bidder, or loan him out for the rest of the season.
UtdDistrict learned earlier this month that Antony is unhappy with the amount of game time he is currently receiving at the club and wants to hold talks with chefs about his role going forward.
While the Brazilian winger remains dedicated to the team, he is not content with his current situation and will look for an exit if the problem does not change.
A new role in training
This report comes amid Amorim’s choice to trial Antony in a new role during his first training session at the club during the 11vs11 drills.
Antony, who played right wing-back during the inaugural training session, was one of three players trialled in new positions.
Marcus Rashford was given a role as a striker, while Luke Shaw was used as a left centre-back in Amorim’s back three.
However, it must be considered that Amorim does not have many of his current players available due to injury or international duty, so some of these role changes will have been due to a lack of other options.
