Manchester United chiefs are ‘expected’ to make their first major decision following the changed role for incoming boss Ruben Amorim.

Manchester United decided to part ways with Erik ten Hag as manager last month and chose Sporting’s Ruben Amorim as his replacement.

The 39-year-old will take charge of the club next week after finishing his final game as Sporting boss this weekend.

Ruud van Nistelrooy has been in interim charge for the last three games, with two wins and a draw being a solid return considering the circumstances beforehand.

Fans will be excited to see Amorim get going, with high expectations placed on the new man, especially after his Sporting side smashed Manchester City 4-1 in the Champions League.

However, while change is expected on the pitch there is also going to be a lot different off it. This is mainly due to Amorim’s adjusted role and title to his predecessors.

United announced Amorim as the club’s new head coach, rather than manager. His responsbilities are reduced compared to Ten Hag, who was recognised as the manager of the club.

This is a change that INEOS have been keen to make since the summer. According to ESPN, Amorim will still be given a say before contract extensions are made, for example.

Yet, the final decisions will come from Omar Berrada, Dan Ashworth and Jason Wilcox – other reports state that Amorim does not have a transfer veto in his contract.

Many criticised the club’s laissez-faire approach during Ten Hag’s reign, which saw many signings from his former club Ajax or in the Eredivisie. Now, the new experts in charge have the majority of the say.

This looks to be coming into action for the first time soon as reports state the club are looking to agree a deal to extend Amad Diallo’s contract.

Amad had a great start to the season, winning the Player of the Month for August, and bounced back from some time on the sidelines with an important brace against PAOK in the Europa League on Thursday.

His current deal runs out at the end of the season and Simon Stone has explained that there is an expectation that the 22-year-old will sign a new contract until June 2027.

As reports explain, it is likely that Amorim will be consulted on the decision before it is finalised but it all comes down to those in the hierarchy.

People will hope this all allows Amorim to be focused on the work done on the pitch to maximise his chances of success.
