Manchester United are “seriously” considering battling Barcelona for Joshua Kimmich to replace Casemiro this summer, according to reports.

Manchester United are looking at signing a midfielder this summer should Casemiro leave Old Trafford after two years under Erik ten Hag.

With INEOS looking to raise funds and cut player wages, Casemiro represents an almost perfect sale for Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team. According to a new report from Spain, they have identified a replacement.

According to Sport, Manchester United are seriously considering signing Joshua Kimmich this summer to replace the 32-year-old Brazilian who has suffered multiple injuries this campaign.

The report explains that United are going to put Casemiro on the transfer list this summer to try to recoup as much of the £60 million they paid Real Madrid for his services in 2022 before putting these funds into signing a replacement.

United have “several names” on their list for midfield this summer, but it is said that Kimmich has become a “priority” at Old Trafford after he has so far refused to renew his contract with Bayern Munich.

However, United will have to battle Barcelona, who are attempting to lure Kimmich to La Liga in 2025 once his current deal expires. It is said that the German international would cost no more than £43 million (€50 million) this summer.

Liverpool and Tottenham are also “behind” the Bayern midfielder, and United will “make a move” to get ahead of all three clubs this summer.

Opinion: Kimmich is perfect

Joshua Kimmich would be a strong replacement for Casemiro at Manchester United for several reasons, the first of which is his incredible versatility. While primarily a midfielder, he is capable of playing in multiple positions, including defensive midfield, central midfield, right-back, and even centre-back if needed. This flexibility would provide Manchester United with tactical options and depth in various areas of the pitch.

Kimmich possesses excellent tactical awareness and understanding of the beautiful game. His ability to read the game allows him to intercept passes, break up opposition attacks, and provide defensive stability, similar to Casemiro. Furthermore, he is adept at initiating attacks and distributing the ball effectively, which aligns with Manchester United’s style of play.

Kimmich exhibits strong leadership qualities on the pitch for both Bayern Munich and Germany. He leads by example with his work rate, commitment, and determination. His leadership would be invaluable in guiding United’s midfield and setting a high standard for his teammates.

Kimmich has achieved significant success with Bayern Munich and the German national team, winning multiple Bundesliga titles, Champions League trophies, and the World Cup. His winning mentality and experience in high-pressure situations would bring a valuable winning mindset to United’s squad, especially in crucial moments of the season.

Overall, Joshua Kimmich’s versatility, tactical intelligence, leadership qualities, winning mentality, and potential make him a world-class option to replace Casemiro at Old Trafford this summer. His skill set would complement the team’s style of play and contribute significantly to their success on the domestic and European fronts.
