Bryan Robson has been full of praise for one of Manchester United’s star players under Erik ten Hag so far this season.

Robson, 67, is one of the greatest players in United’s history and has been speaking highly of the teenage sensation Kobbie Mainoo, who made his England debut last weekend.

Mainoo would then go on to earn his first start for the Three Lions against Belgium. He was awarded the England Man of the Match award after the game.

It has been a wonderful debut season for the academy graduate in an overall difficult campaign for Ten Hag’s side, and Robson believes that his off-field traits can be the key to help elevate him to the top of the game.

“It’s always great when you’re connected with a club and a young lad comes through from the academy and they impress,” Robson began when speaking on Kobbie Mainoo on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast.

“It’s his control and his mental control. The lad looks as if he’s grounded. He is really pleasant around the training camp.

“If he keeps working, he’s got a great chance to have a great career with England and with Man United.”

The maturity of Mainoo – both on and off the pitch – is no secret to the United fanbase by now. Ten Hag has praised his approach on the training pitch several times before and also believes that the teenager will not let his recent England success cloud his hard work behind the scenes.

“Yes, but we have discussed this (getting carried away with the hype) before. So far, he handles it very well, and if he crosses the line, of course, I, as a manager, we, as coaches, will interfere,” he explained.

“But so far, it is not necessary because he wants to play football, he wants to win, he wants to give his best every day because he wants to improve, he just wants to have fun on the pitch. Fun for him is to play, dominant, dictate and win the game.”
