With Manchester United expected to undergo a squad overhaul this summer, one of their top targets has been praised by Premier League winner Micah Richards.

Joao Gomes, who is now in his second season at United’s Premier League rivals Wolves, has been highlighted as a potential recruit for the Red Devils.

Gomes, who made his international debut for Brazil during the Seleção’s 1-0 victory over England on Saturday night, has been suggested as a possible replacement for Casemiro.

It was reported as recently as last week by The Mirror that United had identified Gomes as a replacement for Casemiro should the five-time Champions League winner leave the club.

Casemiro, 32, has been widely linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos set to oversee one of United’s biggest transfer windows in years.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Richards would praise Gomes for his perfomance, with the 23-year-old impressing in his first international outing.

“We have to give a quick shout-out to Gomes of Wolves,” Richards announced. “Oh my word, what a player he is by the way.

“Obviously, we don’t get to see Wolves too much on TV. We see them on Match of the Day. Seeing him up close and personal, his touches, his anticipation when he’s winning the ball back and his weight of ball forward. Sorry Wolves fans, he’s going to the top that lad.”

Joining Wolves back in January of 2023, Gomes has since made 35 Premier League appearances for the Midlands club.

Signing for Wolves for a fee of £16.2 million, it is believed that he would be avaliable this summer for a fee of approximately £40 million.
