Erik ten Hag has multiple injury concerns to consider as Manchester United prepare to face Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester United are gearing up for their third Premier League fixture of the 2024/25 season as they prepare to take on Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Under Erik ten Hag, United have had a mixed start to the campaign, securing a 1-0 victory over Fulham but suffering a late 2-1 defeat to Brighton. Despite the inconsistent results, the team appears more organised compared to last season.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have had a strong start under new manager Arne Slot, winning both of their opening matches 2-0 against Ipswich Town and Brentford. Slot will be looking to make a statement at Old Trafford, aiming to continue his team’s positive momentum.

Against Brighton, United were hit with another potential injury issue. Mason Mount had to exit the field at halftime, being replaced by Joshua Zirkzee.

“It was a decision, he had some problems, he had an issue, so we know the history of Mason, so there are four weeks to come out,” Ten Hag said when asked about Mount’s injury concern. “But I think, also, Joshua is coming better in, we are losing the game, and I think he had a good impact in the game.”

Mount was not spotted in the official training photos that United released on Tuesday afternoon, but he has until Sunday to recover.

Meanwhile, fans will be eager to learn if Manuel Ugarte, a pending new signing, will make his debut against Liverpool. Ugarte arrived in Manchester on Tuesday evening and underwent his medical and contract signings on Wednesday.

This means he will likely be able to register to face Liverpool, but Ten Hag is likely to not start the player. Casemiro has performed well so far, but Ugarte may get his chance to be introduced to Old Trafford as a substitute.

Ten Hag will have to deal with five other injuries for at least one more game. Luke Shaw and Rasmus Højlund were ruled out shortly before the start of the season.

Still, both players are expected back in mid-September, meaning they could return after the international break when United face Southampton.

Leny Yoro and Tyrell Malacia face more extended absences. Neither player will likely return to the pitch before November. Victor Lindelöf is still out with a foot problem, and there is no time frame on his return.
