Manchester United youngster Kobbie Mainoo is set to receive a call-up to England Under-21s for their next international break.

Mainoo, 18, has emerged as an important first-team player for Erik ten Hag at United this season.

He has started 10 Premier League games this season after his full debut against Everton in November and has shown his quality in various ways.

Whether it has been avoiding the press expertly, finding a pass that no one else noticed or scoring a last-minute winner after taking on three players; Mainoo has displayed it all.

His excellent quality has attracted the interest of the Ghana FA, who have stated their intent for Mainoo to represent them internationally. However, Gareth Southgate and England are already planning to continue Mainoo’s progress through their youth ranks.

The midfielder has represented the Three Lions at U17s, U18s and U19s levels and according to MailOnline, he is now in line for a first call-up to England’s Under-21s levels.

It was explained in the report that the FA are aware of Ghana’s interest in Mainoo switching international allegiances and want him involved for the Under-21 European Qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Luxembourg.

Meanwhile, according to a new transfer report from Sky Germany, the Reds have made contact with Bayern Munich for Mathys Tel and are very interested in signing him in the summer.

It was added that Tel wants to stay at the Bundesliga giants, but if he doesn’t receive the feeling that the German club believe in him, he will consider his options.

Man United are one of three English clubs to enquire about the 18-year-old in recent weeks.
