Joshua Zirkzee reacts to Euro 2024 exit as Man United move confirmed
Joshua Zirkzee has reacted to Netherlands’ Euro 2024 exit to England as his Manchester United move has been agreed.
The Netherlands international is poised to become United’s first signing of the INEOS era, as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, who announced the agreement between the clubs.
United had demonstrated significant interest in Zirkzee in recent weeks, and the deal has now been finalised following his departure from Euro 2024 on Wednesday evening.
The 23-year-old striker came off the bench during the 2-1 defeat against England, a game which Kobbie Mainoo took by storm for Gareth Southgate’s side.
Zirkzee was pictured speaking to the United midfielder after the final whistle, and his move to Old Trafford accelerated once Netherlands’ exit was confirmed.
The new summer signing, who has a medical test at Carrington on Friday, reacted to his country’s tournament exit on Instagram, claiming that representing his nation was a ‘dream come true’.
“A big let down last night. It was a dream come true to be part of this team (yet still), and I am proud and grateful to wear this shirt. Orange fans, thank you for your support,” the 23-year-old wrote.
Last season, Zirkzee scored 12 goals and contributed seven assists for Bologna, playing a pivotal role in the club’s first Champions League qualification since the 1960s.
He will provide important depth in the striker position alongside Rasmus Højlund, but it has also been reported that United see him as a versatile player able to play across the forward line.
