Kobbie Mainoo explains secret behind England form as Euro 2024 final looms
Kobbie Mainoo has explained the secret mentality behind his successes with England as the Manchester United starlet prepares to start in the 2024 European Championship final.
England‘s 2024 European Championships have been a rollercoaster ride for fans across the United Kingdom.
Manchester United have two representatives in the squad, Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw, with both players having played increasingly important roles during the country’s route to the final.

After Mainoo failed to start any of the group fixtures, he has been a mainstay in the side since the quarter-finals, proving himself to be one of England’s best players as they, rather hecticly, made their way to the final. Shaw has been a fantastic substitute across the last two ties and is set to start as they play Spain on Sunday.
Wednesday evening saw yet another brilliant display from Mainoo, but it was Ollie Watkins who grabbed headlines following his last-minute winner against the Netherlands. Following the tie, Mainoo described his feelings as a result of the goal.
“It’s an indescribable feeling, we’re all buzzing,” Mainoo told the BBC following the result. “It’s been such a journey to get here.
“I feel like we’ve built on all the performances that we’ve had leading to this point, and I feel like the only way is up. It’s time to put ourselves into history.
“We had the game under control in the middle of the park. And I feel like in the second half, we just had to grind it out. It was tough but the whole squad was a help, with the impact off the bench from Cole and Ollie. What a finish!”
Continuing, he was asked how he has felt about his England journey so far, considering that he only made his international debut in March earlier this year. Mainoo replied by explaining his secret mentality is to just take each day as it comes, and now he is being rewarded.
“My [England journey] has happened quick. But I’ve just been taking it day by day, game by game. And now we’re in the European Championship final.”
Speaking further to EnglandFootball, Mainoo said: “100% that is the aim (to win), that’s the only reason we’re here. We’re not here to get to the final and call it quits. We’re here to win and to sketch our names into history.
“I’m here to do a job for the team, and I’m here to win. It’s a dream come true. I can’t get caught up in the bright lights. I’ve got to get my head down and do the job.”
We wish Luke and Kobbie all the best as they prepare to face Spain in the final on Sunday evening in Berlin.
