Fabrizio Romano delivers interesting Man United transfer update, it’s a smart move
Fabrizio Romano has delivered an interesting update on one Manchester United transfer target this summer.
The Reds are looking likely to move forward with deals for Joshua Zirkzee and Matthijs de Ligt in the coming days after the Netherlands were knocked out of Euro 2024.
Those two moves will address some of the most important positions for Erik ten Hag’s side. But they are also hoping for midfield additions as well.
Manuel Ugarte has been heavily linked as a potential option, as it seems likely that he will leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
The Urgaugay international could be utilised alongside Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes in the midfield at Old Trafford.
However, Fabrizio Romano has detailed that United are still deciding whether it’s the best move for the club. He has explained that a similar internal process is ongoing to the one they had about Zirkzee.
“United also remain in constant conversations with Paris Saint-Germain over Manuel Ugarte,” Romano said on his Daily Briefing.
“There is a very good relationship between the two clubs, so now it’s about Man United deciding how much they want to invest on a new midfielder, and if Ugarte is worth the money.
“There will be an internal discussion at United before coming to a decision, similar to what happened with Joshua Zirkzee – it took them nearly a month to review this internally, think about opportunities, consider all the different aspects of the deal, and then deciding together to go for Zirkzee.
“Now Ugarte is in this kind of review process internally at United, with talks already taking place with PSG, even though there has been no official bid from United yet.
“It’s a direct club-to-club negotiation, but I’m told it’s not a traditional kind of negotiation with official bids at the moment.”
This is something that makes complete sense. United are not jumping into these deals without serious consideration, and that is a breath of fresh air compared to the previous regime.
Ugarte appears to have clear positives and negatives in his game. The midfield market is not extremely wide, and other targets, such as Joao Neves, are valued above what United can offer.
It seems likely that United will decide on their course of action following the additions of De Ligt and Zirkzee.
