Bruno Fernandes sends message to Donny van de Beek after Manchester United exit confirmed
Bruno Fernandes has sent a message to Donny van de Beek following the confirmation of his Manchester United exit.
Van de Beek, 27, has joined Spanish club Girona from United after a difficult four-year spell at Old Trafford, where the Dutchman’s career halted.
After being ranked 28th in the 2019 Ballon d’Or, the young Ajax midfielder had the world at his feet and decided to move to United in the summer of 2020.
It was a move that excited many fans, but there were clear question marks about where he would fit into a team built around Bruno Fernandes.
Unfortunately for Van de Beek, it never worked out at Old Trafford, and loan spells at Everton and Eintracht Frankfurt were not much better. A new start is needed for the midfielder as he enters the prime years of his career.
In a message released on Instagram, Van de Beek said: “Dear Manchester United family. Today is a memorable day as my adventure at the club comes to an end. I want to thank you all for your support throughout the years.
“From the moment we arrived at Manchester United, we felt extremely welcome, and we are grateful for that. Thank you to everyone at the club for making us feel at home. A special thanks to all the fans that made these years unforgettable.
“Besides the football, the birth of our two children here ensures that Manchester will always have a special place in our hearts. Good luck to everybody, we’ll meet again.”
Ahead of his move to Girona, who finished third in the La Liga table last term, Van de Beek received a short message from United captain Fernandes.
In the comments to the Dutchman’s post, United’s no.8 replied: “You deserve the best.”
Many United fans will agree with this. Although Van de Beek’s career at the club transpired in an unfortunate way, there are no hard feelings as he departs.
