James Overy: Who is Man United’s new signing? Age, position, style of play & more
17-year-old Australian starlet James Overy has officially signed for Manchester United this week after a long Premier League ratification process.
James Overy agreed a deal to move to boyhood club Manchester United earlier this summer but the deal was only officially announced on 24 September.
United received the necessary clearances from the Premier League and Football Association to complete the deals for the teenager, as well as fellow 17-year-old Samuel Lusale.
Chido Obi-Martin is also expected to make that step in the coming weeks, while Sekou Kone also joined the club this summer.
With Overy now at the club, he is set to join the Academy setup at Carrington.
Who is James Overy?
James Overy is a 17-year-old Australian footballer who also holds British citizenships and is a product of the Perth Glory academy.
While he did not make a competitive first-team appearance for Glory, he did play in a pre-season friendly against Premier League outfit West Ham in 2023.
Last year, Overy and his family relocated to the United Kingdom, where the teenager for the Newton Abbot Spurs’ first team in Newton Abbot, Devon.
According to transfermakrt, Overy has signed a three-year contract at Old Trafford. He rejected offers from the likes of West Ham, Everton and Leicester, as per the Manchester Evening News.
What is James Overy’s position/playstyle?
Overy is a right-back who is comfortable on the ball and can play with both feet. His former coach Marc Revell said: “He is very much of an attacking wingback.
“[He is] suited to today’s modern game where the fullback spends most of their time in the opponent’s half.
“Tenacious, aggressive going forward and very skilful with a great technique.”
What team will James Overy play for?
Previous reports have claimed that Overy will be coming into the Under-18s team this season at United.
The 17-year-old right-back looks likely to be challenging Jaydan Kamason for the right-back position in Adam Lawrence’s side.
