When Sekou Kone will make Man United youth debut as integration process explained
Exciting midfield talent Sekou Kone joined Manchester United in a surprising summer transfer move and he will begin in the Under-21s side.
Kone, 18, joined Manchester United this summer from Guidars FC for a reported fee of £1 million.
A relatively unknown figure to the majority of the United fanbase, Kone caught the club’s attention after his standout performances at last year’s U17 World Cup.
Interim director of recruitment Christopher Vivell, known for his experience with Red Bull clubs, played a pivotal role in securing the transfer, where deals like this are common practice.
Since his arrival, Kone has been adjusting to life in Manchester, with the club supporting him in building connections with his youth teammates.
He was spotted at Old Trafford last week during United’s 7-0 victory over Barnsley and shared a photo on social media with fellow United youngster Sekou Kaba.
When Kone could be in action for United U21s
Some fans hoped that they could see Kone in action during the Under-21s clash against Manchester City on the weekend but he was not involved.
AcademyScoop has provided the latest details on the teenager’s integration process and when we could potentially see him start to play games for the Under-21s.
He explains that the midfielder is not yet fully fit after missing pre-season due to the process surrounding his United move and that the club are also managing his integration slowly.
The reporter claimed that Kone is thought to be a few weeks away from reaching full fitness and being available for selection.
“Sékou Koné is not expected to be involved in Manchester United’s under-21 fixture against Doncaster Rovers tonight,” AcademyScoop wrote on X.
“The club want to ensure that Kone’s integration is managed gradually to allow him to acclimate to life in England at a measured pace.
“The Mali youth international is thought to be several few weeks away from reaching full fitness levels having missed out on pre-season preparations during his transfer process.”
This could mean that the young midfielder could make his first appearance against Newcastle’s youth side on 25 October, with the most recent game before that coming at the beginning of next month.
United reportedly see the teenager as a first-team signing due to his talent levels but it seems to be the correct approach to allow him to settle into his new life before being thrust into any sort of first-team environment.
