Fabrizio Romano reveals ex-Manchester United star has ‘agreement in principle’ with Saudi Pro League club
The Saudi Pro League has been growing in stature ever since Cristiano Ronaldo moved there following his 2022 exit from Manchester United.
Manchester United decided to part ways with club legend Cristiano Ronaldo in November 2022 after his explosive interview with Piers Morgan aired.
Shortly after the World Cup in Qatar, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner decided to join Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League, a move that made waves across the footballing world.
Since then many stars from top European clubs have moved for big-money contracts in the Middle East, such as Riyad Mahrez, Karim Benzema and Neymar Jr.
United have not really been able to take advantage of the Saudi market, unlike some of their rivals, with their only direct move with the league being a £5 million sale of Alex Telles to Al-Nassr.
It appears that some business could be done in the near future, with Casemiro being linked with a move to reunite with Ronaldo at the Saudi club.
Romano reveals ex-United star close to Saudi Pro League move
Meanwhile, another former United player could be making their way to the growing league this month to join Telles and Ronaldo.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka has an agreement in principle with Al Shabab over contract terms.
Dubravka spent the first half of the 2022/23 campaign on loan at United before he was recalled in the mid-season window. He played two games for the club.
Romano added that the goalkeeper is now waiting for Newcastle’s final decision before joining the Saudi Pro League.
United could take advantage of Saudi Pro League
While other clubs were taking advantage of the Saudi boom a couple of years back, United were not able to make any deals happen.
The Reds will be hoping that they can still take advantage of the market as they look to make sales over the next two transfer windows.

Casemiro is the most obvious option, with Saudi clubs being some of the only in the world who would match, or most likely increase, his existing wage at Old Trafford.
Marcus Rashford has already rejected big-money offers from there, but you would think that United could try and work out deals elsewhere.
Whether it be to Saudi Arabia or not, it is quite clear that United need to sell better than they ever have before in order to help Amorim buy the players his system desires.
