David Ornstein gives two important updates on “premature” Manchester United target
Transfer expert David Ornstein has provided two important updates on one Manchester United target this summer.
The Reds are seemingly working on various deals this week following the recruitment meeting led by sporting director Dan Ashworth on Monday.
With centre-back and striker the main priorities, United are also looking to sign a central midfielder to boost their engine room.
Casemiro and Christian Eriksen have uncertain futures at Old Trafford, while it is not yet confirmed whether Sofyan Amrabat will return to the club permanently after his season-long loan last term.
Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain has quickly emerged as an option, with various reports claiming that the Premier League outfit have delivered a new bid for him this week.
Ornstein, while speaking on The Athletic podcast, has clarified that those reports are “premature” and that it is not a guaranteed deal at this moment.
He also interestingly mentions how there seem to be mixed feelings about the PSG midfielder within the club, which will need to be solved in further talks about the player.
“Reports came out from France suggesting that a new offer from Manchester United had come in. I think it said around 38 million pounds or euros,” said Ornstein.
“The checks I made suggested that this is perhaps a little bit premature and that it’s not guaranteed that United are going to go through with the Ugarte deal.
“I think there’s other interest in him, I don’t think there’s unanimity inside Old Trafford to go for him, so it’s going to take some more conversations.
“I’m not saying it won’t happen, I’m not saying there’s not interest because there is, but again, that one is not so advanced for the midfield position.”
United will likely be looking to solve their issues at centre-back and striker before properly dealing with the central midfield situation.
