Manchester United are looking to raise new funds this summer to create cash flow for transfers to Old Trafford.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS, the club’s new co-owners, aim to offload as many fringe and outcast players as possible this summer, with Manchester United needing to raise significant funds in the 2024 transfer market.

Mason Greenwood and Jadon Sancho are almost certain to leave this summer following their respective exiles from the club last season. Other players, such as Scott McTominay and Victor Lindelöf, could also be on their way out.

Additionally, several other sidelined players are expected to generate transfer funds, and new technical director Dan Ashworth will have a hugely significant say in who these players will be.

According to talkSPORT, the club, guided in the transfer window by Ashworth, are now preparing to cash in on Harry Maguire this summer.

Maguire was signed for a record £80 million in the summer of 2019, but he has failed to live up to this price tag.

Although he had shown himself to be very useful in parts, especially during the club’s injury crisis in 2023/24, the club is wary that if they don’t sell him this summer, he could leave for free in 2025.

With this in mind, Ashworth wants the club to recoup as much of the £80 million as possible. The former United captain has admirers in Serie A, where his bullish approach to defending could be very valuable.

It is a move United fans have seen before, with former United centre-back Chris Smalling excelling at Roma following his initial 2019 loan that turned into a permanent transfer one season later.

While no fee for Maguire is mentioned in the report, the club were demanding between £25-30 million from West Ham last summer. Although a fee was agreed, the move fell through due to a failure to settle on personal terms.
