David de Gea has sent one of his former Manchester United teammates a message ahead of the end-of-season run.

De Gea, 33, is currently without a club after leaving United at the end of last season. He spent 12 years at Old Trafford between 2011 and 2023.

The stop-stopper will likely reignite his career next season following a break, and he is seemingly looking forward to one of his former teammates at United returning to action.

Lisandro Martínez has been plagued with injuries over the last 12 months, but he is finally back in training at Carrington following his latest setback.

There are three Premier League games remaining, but many are focused on the Argentine coming in for the FA Cup final against Manchester City.

De Gea’s message to Martínez

The 26-year-old will be keen to prepare himself in order to be fully fit for the game at Wembley after he missed out on the final against Pep Guardiola’s team last term.

After Martínez returned to first-team training on Thursday, he uploaded images of the session on his Instagram.

In response, De Gea simply commented with the eyes emojis, suggesting that he is looking forward to his former teammates returning to the pitch.

De Gea’s prior praise

The former United goalkeeper has been a fan of Martínez since he stepped foot in Old Trafford. Shortly after his arrival, along with the likes of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, the Spaniard provided glowing references for the new signings.

“They brought to the team a lot of experience for sure. Experienced players with many games already,” he explained.

“They bring passion to the club as well as desire. I think all of them, they want to win, that’s the most important thing and of course they’re quality players, good players – so we signed really good players.”

While many of the other players signed that summer have not made the same impact in their second season, Martínez is one of the few who has unfortunately barely had a chance due to his injuries.

Many fans will be hoping that he can remain fit until the end of the season and have a successful campaign next term.
