Dan Ashworth is planning to replace a £70 million Manchester United duo in 2025, and one potential signing is obvious.

The Reds enjoyed a successful 2024 summer transfer window, with the new INEOS regime ensuring that all priority positions were addressed for Erik ten Hag’s side.

They also managed to sell on a lot of players, such as Scott McTominay and Mason Greenwood, that will help financially in future windows.

Interestingly, the work does not stop for the transfer chiefs, who are already preparing for the upcoming windows at Old Trafford.

Dan Ashworth targeting double Man United signing in 2025

According to a new report from GiveMeSport, the Reds are lining up two new midfield signings in 2025 as they look to continue their squad overhaul.

It was explained that securing replacements for Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, who are both expected to leave next summer, is considered a priority behind the scenes.

The pair joined the club in the summer of 2022. Eriksen came in as a free agent, while Casemiro was picked up for a hefty £70 million package from Real Madrid.

GiveMeSport adds that sporting director Dan Ashworth has been challenged to bring in youthful alternatives for the two 32-year-olds instead of falling into the same trap of previous years.

United have often targeted players at the peak of their powers or even slightly after that, with Casemiro being a prime example of why this isn’t always the best idea.

The Reds signed two midfield players this summer, Manuel Ugarte and Sekou Kone. The latter is an exciting long-term option.

However, in terms of adding new midfield talent, it is quite clear that one Premier League option is staring United in the face.

Adam Wharton an obvious option for Man United

Adam Wharton of Crystal Palace is a player that United were offered when he was still at Blackburn Rovers but the club turned down the move.

Since then, the 20-year-old has taken major strides, proving himself in the toughest league in the world and earning a place in England’s Euro 2024 squad.

There were murmurs that United were interested in signing young English talent in the summer, but a deal did not make sense as the club were walking a financial tightrope.

However, there will be more breathing room for Ashworth and his team next summer, which could allow a move for Wharton to materialise, depending on how hard of a bargain Palace drive.
