Ashley Young explains Manchester United’s biggest disappointment vs Spurs – it wasn’t the red card
Ashley Young has explained what he feels has disappointed him the most about Manchester United during the club’s 3-0 loss against Tottenham at Old Trafford.
Manchester United endured their third Premier League loss in six games, falling 3-0 to Tottenham Hotspur.
The match started with Spurs scoring early through Brennan Johnson, and they maintained their offensive pressure on André Onana’s goal throughout the first half.

The situation worsened for United just before halftime when Bruno Fernandes was sent off for a reckless challenge on James Maddison, leading to a collapse in their performance.
Tottenham extended their lead shortly after the break, and despite United’s attempts to rally, Spurs sealed the victory with a third goal from Dominic Solanke with 15 minutes remaining.
Ashley Young, who played 261 times for United between 2011 and 2020, reacted to the loss, explaining that he was most disappointed by the side’s lack of fight against Tottenham.
“I think Man United just didn’t give anything,” Young explained on Sky Sports following the defeat.
“There was no effort, there was no work break, no one was running, it didn’t look like there were no leaders on the pitch. It’s just, everything just seemed disjointed. It looked like it was just so many individuals all over that pitch and no one wanted to take the ball, no one wanted to create anything.
“It was just, everything was bad from start to finish. When we talked at half time about who was the home team, Tottenham was so comfortable.
“Man United didn’t lay a glove on them, they didn’t do nothing, they didn’t get in behind, but they created a couple of chances as well. But they didn’t look to build on that at all.
“Like you say, Tottenham’s two centre-halves, I don’t think they were troubled. They were moving all over the pitch, they had so many different chances, different opportunities.
“Like I said, it just looked like Tottenham were the home team, and the United fans are going to go away disappointed and rightly so as well.”
