Antonio Conte is reportedly eyeing a Manchester United midfielder as he looks to take over Serie A club Napoli this summer.

Antonio Conte is a name that Manchester United fans will be distinctly familiar with across the last decade for multiple reasons.

When he managed Chelsea, he turned them into a truly elite Premier League side, winning the title in 2016/17. He was linked with the job at Old Trafford on multiple occasions after that, most recently before Erik ten Hag was appointed.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Conte is now set to take over as manager of Serie A side Napoli, and he will, therefore of course, be looking at who he would like to bring in this summer.

Conte is a manager who appreciates players who have performed in Italy previously, so it is no surprise that he is scouring the market for those with Serie A experience. One name that has cropped up is United’s Sofyan Amrabat.

Amrabat spent the last season at Old Trafford on loan from Fiorentina at Ten Hag’s request but has failed to live up to expectations at United. His contract is set to expire at the end of June, with the club not triggering the £20-odd million purchase clause in the deal.

According to Italian agent Gigi Iacomino, Amrabat is a player that Conte “would like” to see join him at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium this summer.

“Conte would have proposed several names to De Laurentiis,” Iacomino told Spazio Napoli.

“(Conte) is at hunting heavy shots in defence. Conte would like at least one, if not two, of (Milan) Skriniar, Kim (Min-Jae) and (Alessandro) Buongiorno for his defensive department.”

“One of the names that Conte would like (in midfield) would, in fact, be Amrabat.”
