Man United interested in Premier League left-back as Luke Shaw makes England return
Manchester United are interested in a Premier League left-back this summer to provide competition for Luke Shaw.
According to talkSPORT, the Reds are interested in Bournemouth’s young left-back Milos Kerkez.
The 20-year-old fullback has been identified as a potential option who could provide competition and important cover for Luke Shaw.
Shaw was injured for the latter half of the 2023/24 campaign after being rushed back from a small knock in February. Tyrell Malacia did not make a single appearance last term.
Kerkez, 20, joined the Cherries from AZ Alkmaar in 2023 for an undisclosed fee and made 33 appearances for Andoni Iraola’s overachieving side across the last season.
The Hungary international was developed in AC Milan’s youth programme and has been named in the Euro 2024 squad. Marco Rossi’s team will face Switzerland, Germany and Scotland in their group fixtures in June.
Meanwhile, Shaw has returned to the pitch at St George’s Park as he aims to prove his fitness to Gareth Southgate ahead of his final squad selection for the upcoming summer tournament.
Shaw was included in the provisional England squad but the Three Lions boss had admitted that it seems unlikely the 28-year-old would make the final selection.
In a detailed Instagram post uploaded after the FA Cup final victory against Manchester City, Shaw opened up on the difficulties he has faced this season amid criticism over his commitment.
“This has definitely been the most frustrating season for me, I have had set back after set back and have worked so hard to get back to fitness but things just haven’t gone my way,” he wrote.
“I pushed so hard to get back before the end of the season and the final, but some things just aren’t meant to be.
“I don’t normally react to things I see on social media but there’s a lot of people questioning my loyalty to this club and asking how I am fit for England but not United.
“The reality is I am not 100% fit for either right now but I am doing everything I can and constantly working to be. I have been at this club for 10 years, through highs and lows, and for anyone to question my loyalty is obviously frustrating.
“My biggest focus right now is being fit, and then whatever happens this summer, I will be ready. Thank you for your patience.”
