Alejandro Garnacho started a social media frenzy on Sunday afternoon as he scored twice for Manchester United against West Ham.

Manchester United defeated West Ham United 3-0 on Sunday afternoon in what was one of their best performances of the season so far, shooting themselves to sixth in the Premier League table.

An opener from Rasmus Højlund and two further goals from Alejandro Garnacho sealed the win for Erik ten Hag‘s men, making it four wins from five in 2024 so far.

However, the most significant moment of the tie is arguably the celebrations of Garnacho after his goals, where he seemed to mock West Ham forward Mohammed Kudus by copying a move made in the reverse fixture.

“That is Kudus’ celebration, that’s Mo’s celebration,” West Ham striker Michael Antonio said on  The Players’ Channel podcast.

“They took it to heart that he done that, [but] thats his signature celebration, no one was doing that before. I’m not gonna lie, I’m jealous because that celebration is hard, I wish I thought of that myself.

“So it’s either they were doing it to rub it in his face, or they were doing it because of how good the celebration is.”

However, other fan theories have circulated online as to why Garnacho chose that moment to pull out such an iconic celebration – with another being that it was a reply to Angel Di Maria.

Di Maria recently criticised Garnacho for copying the celebrations of Cristiano Ronaldo rather than his international teammate Lionel Messi, and sitting on the advertising board is, of course, one of Ronaldo’s most famous photos from his time at Real Madrid.
