A swap deal involving Alejandro Garnacho is said to be “not out of the question” if a concrete offer doesn’t arrive soon, while Rúben Amorim could have to consider if there is a way back for the Argentine
Alejandro Garnacho was exiled from Rúben Amorim’s first-team squad after his comments in the post-match interviews of the Europa League final loss to Tottenham Hotspur. The Argentine was left out of the squad for the last Premier League game against Aston Villa, but played on the post-season tour in Asia.
Manchester United’s No.17 played 58 times for the Red Devils last season, scoring 11 goals and registering 10 assists after changing his position when Amorim replaced Erik ten Hag as head coach.
However, it appears his future is destined to be away from Old Trafford as United consider their options for other transfer targets this summer.
Even if he were to remain at the club, game time could be hard to come by as he would have to compete with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, with Mason Mount and Amad also in the hunt for minutes in those positions.
The only other option for Garnacho would be to play as a centre forward, with United still in the hunt for a new striker after failing to sign Liam Delap and Hugo Ekitike.
Garnacho and Jackson swap deal is a possibility
Jason Wilcox is continuing his search for a new striker this summer, but many feel he is prioritising the sales of Antony, Garnacho, Tyrell Malacia and Jadon Sancho before making a move for a centre forward.
However, a swap deal including one of the necessary outgoers and a new striker could save the recruitment team valuable time this summer, as they could still sign a goalkeeper and a midfielder.
As reported by the Daily Mail, signing a striker could be difficult for United, as they will have to raise funds for a new addition. Alexander Isak and Benjamin Sesko are likely to be too difficult to sign, while a deal for Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson could materialise.
With Joao Pedro and Delap signed this summer, Jackson could be looking for a move away from Chelsea this summer, but Enzo Maresca’s side value the centre forward at £80-100 million, too much for United.
If Amorim and Wilcox decide to make a move for Jackson, they could choose to offer Garnacho in a swap deal, as this is “not out of the question.”
Amorim could consider a way back for Garnacho
Garnacho has had interest from Aston Villa and Chelsea in the Premier League, as well as Napoli and Bayern Munich, but there has yet to be a concrete offer for the Argentine.
If an offer doesn’t come in soon, ESPN reports that Amorim may consider whether there is a way back for Garnacho next season, potentially including him in the squad for United’s last pre-season game against David de Gea’s Fiorentina.
While this is considered unlikely, reintegrating Garnacho into the squad could help Amorim next season, giving him another attacking option without having to sign a new player.
This could free up more funds to sign a goalkeeper or midfielder, but a centre forward signing appears to be the priority for the recruitment team.
