“A bit like Cunha…” Manchester United handed major chance in Bryan Mbeumo race after latest transfer claim

Ben Jacobs has revealed that Manchester United still have a major chance to sign Bryan Mbeumo this summer after his latest transfer claim.

Manchester United will be targeting several players this summer as they begin their long-term rebuild under Rúben Amorim, aiming to sign more players who suit his system.

Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu and Ayden Heaven both joined United in January, marking the only two transfers made during the Amorim era. Both have impressed, despite their young ages, showing that when the manager acquires more players, he could help return the Red Devils to the top.

One signing has been all but confirmed already, with Matheus Cunha joining United from Wolverhampton Wanderers for just over £60 million. The Brazilian appears to be key on the move despite the lack of Champions League football.

Reports state that Cunha wants to come to Old Trafford because he believes United are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and Jason Wilcox and the rest of the recruitment team need to focus on more players with that mentality.

While it appears Liam Delap is heading to Chelsea to reunite with his former coach Enzo Maresca, United have their eyes on another Premier League star who could join to play as the centre forward.

Mbeumo transfer remains a possibility

Amorim will want a striker this summer to take the burden off Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee, who have both struggled in front of goal since the departure of Erik ten Hag.

His former Sporting CP centre-forward, Viktor Gyokeres, is another option, but a deal for the Swedish striker could prove difficult after United’s loss in the Europa League final.

However, another Red Devils target, Bryan Mbeumo, could be willing to join United without Champions League football, reports Ben Jacobs on The United Stand YouTube channel.

“Mbeumo, I think, is more open towards a project, a bit like Cunha. I’m not aware that it’s Champions League or nothing,” said Jacobs.

“Clearly Newcastle have that lure that United don’t, but Newcastle proved when they qualified for the Champions League and got knocked out, that it is a streaky project.”

Another striker signing is still needed

While signing Mbeumo would massively improve United’s attacking capabilities, another striker signing is needed if they want to compete from the outset next season.

The Brentford forward usually plays on the right of a front three for Thomas Frank’s side, with Yoanne Wissa playing as the central striker in most games.

If Amorim wants to utilise Mbeumo’s best abilities, he should play him on the right of the front three, with Cunha on the left and a new striker through the middle.

Bruno Fernandes, if he remains at the club, could drop back into midfield alongside Casemiro or Manuel Ugarte, as he did on many occasions last season.
