It has been revealed that Manchester United cannot sign a potentially “world-class” star, despite Rúben Amorim sending scouts to watch him last week
Rúben Amorim is overseeing Manchester United’s rebuild this summer, as he looks to transition the squad into his 3-4-2-1 system in his first full season in charge of the Red Devils.
Matheus Cunha has already joined for £62.5 million, likely becoming the first-choice option on the left of Amorim’s front three, playing in behind Rasmus Hojlund.
With Bruno Fernandes as an almost undroppable midfield option, Amorim is continuing to look for another midfielder to join the squad, either to play as an attacking midfielder or as a more defensive option.
For the more advanced option, Jason Wilcox has been looking at Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, but he could be set for a move to Tottenham Hotspur after Thomas Frank’s move to North London.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s recruitment team could choose to pivot to a more defensive midfielder if Mbeumo joins Tottenham, allowing Fernandes to continue playing in the front three.
United blocked from signing Boudaoui
Hicham Boudaoui, who has been described as a player who has the: “potential to be a world-class”, is being monitored by United, with scouts present during his game for Algeria against Sweden.
The defensive midfielder could be signed to replace Casemiro in Amorim’s midfield, as it is clear the Portuguese manager would like a more energetic option in the middle of the park.
Despite Amorim’s interest in Boudaoui, United have been blocked from signing Boudaoui due to playing for INEOS-owned OGC Nice.
The two clubs have been banned from signing players from each other, due to the UEFA Club Financial Control Body, who oversee the management of multi-club models.
The Red Devils were previously looking at Nice goalkeeper Marcin Bulka, but the recruitment team had to turn their attention to other targets, due to being contracted by the French club.
Will the multi-club model work at United?
Along with United, Laussane and Nice are also owned by INEOS, but there has been little relationship between the three clubs since Ratcliffe purchased a stake in the Red Devils.
Earlier in the season, three United youngsters were sent to train with Laussane as a way of receiving first-team experience while staying at the club.
However, since then, the INEOS-owned sides have had very few interactions with each other. Enzo Kana-Biyik and Sekou Kone appeared to be going out on loan to the Swiss club, but new reports suggest both could stay at the club next season.
The two youngsters will both have to fight for minutes if they wish to play senior football next season, with Kana-Biyik fighting Hojlund and Chido Obi and Kone fighting against five-time Champions League winner Casemiro and Fernandes.
