Altay Bayındır is set to make his Manchester United debut on Sunday as they face Newport County on Sunday afternoon.

Since he signed for Manchester United from Turkish club Fenerbahçe for a fee of around £5 million last summer, Altay Bayındır has yet to make a single appearance under Erik ten Hag.

Due to the Dutchman’s reliance on André Onana in goal, Bayındır’s role as No. 2 has so far solely been to warm the bench and train alongside Onana, but with the Cameroon international away at AFCON, he will get his chance to shine.

United play against Newport County on Sunday afternoon in the fourth round of the FA Cup, and Bayındır will have his four-and-a-half-month wait for an appearance ended.

During that time, according to Times Sport, Bayındır has made the time to make three changes to his professionalism at the club.

He has hired a dietitian, a physical therapist, and a performance coach, and staff at the club say the results are evident. He reportedly spends a lot of time talking about sleep and nutrition with the club’s specialists.

Beyond this, he has also continued to take English lessons and has now become fluent, even being seen to joke around with those at Carrington about Mancunian accents.

“Altay Bayındır is a very good goalkeeper. Altay was treated unfairly,” said Cagri Davran, foreign desk editor of Turkish publication Fanatik.

“In Turkey, people have no chance to make mistakes and that increases the pressure on you a lot. He came to Fenerbahçe in 2019 and played well in his first two seasons. He saved his team in many games.”

Bayındır will have his chance to make a good first impression.
