Three Man United players ‘urge’ Jadon Sancho to apologise to Erik ten Hag
Jadon Sancho was banished from the Manchester United first-team squad after he released a statement earlier this month attacking his manager Erik ten Hag.
The post shared on social media, which has since been deleted, was in response to the Dutchman’s comments on Sancho following United’s 3-1 loss against Arsenal after the English winger was not named in the squad.
Ten Hag explained his reasoning behind the decision being solely based on Sancho’s training performance, something that the 23-year-old brandished as “completely untrue” in his statement, adding that he had been treated as a “scapegoat”.
Shortly after the post went live, the wide-man was sent to train on his own away from the first-team squad. He has not played since and is refusing to apologise to Ten Hag, which has prolonged the saga far longer than it ever needed.
Reports from David McDonnell of The Mirror have stated that members of the United squad are now looking to intervene in the situation; with Harry Maguire, Marcus Rashford, and Luke Shaw pleading to their England and club teammate to swallow his pride and apologise to the manager.
It was added that other players within the squad have echoed the same message to the former Borussia Dortmund star. The report also mentions that the players believe that there will only be one winner in the dispute and that Sancho should back down so that he can start playing again.
A source explained: “They sympathise with him and the way he feels, but recognise a line was crossed with what he posted.”
In fact, right now is the best time for Sancho to be involved. His United career has not been what he would have wanted so far but with Antony out of action, there is a spot to claim on the right-hand side of Ten Hag’s attack.
Yet, currently, Sancho is barred from all first-team facilities at Carrington, including the dining area at the training facility. He has been eating alongside the youth players at the club.
Sancho will yet again not be involved against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup. It could provide another opportunity for the impressive Facundo Pellistri to stake his own claim for the position as the only available natural right-winger. Although the returning Mason Mount could also be stationed there.
