Sheikh Jassim’s plans for Manchester United if he was to take over the club could include Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s return to Old Trafford.

The takeover battle for the English club has been ongoing for seven months now and it is entering a conclusion. Rio Ferdinand has suggested that a “good source” has told him that Sheikh Jassim has pipped British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe in the race.

However, reports have stated that a decision has not yet been made. Reuters, though, did say that United are negotiating exclusivity for Sheikh Jassim – something that others, such as The Times, have disputed.

Should the Qatari bid win in their pursuit of United, prior reports have stated that Sheikh Jassim will aim to bring in club legends to Old Trafford – not to replace Erik ten Hag, who would have the full backing of either winning bid, but instead to represent the club in various different roles.

Whilst Solskjaer, the former manager at Old Trafford, was not namedropped in the report, his latest comments seem like he would be interested in such a role.

Speaking at an event last month, Solskjaer said: “I’ve got another job in me, if it’s the right chance and exciting enough.

“There are so many clubs, but I’m not going to work just for the sake of working. It has to be something special, a new culture, or a club that really excites me. Or maybe they will want me back at the club [United] in some capacity, who knows?”

The Norwegian led United between 2019 and 2022, where he was sacked midway through his third full campaign in charge.

Although there are varying arguments about the level of his success as manager, Solskjaer’s legend status as a player at United cannot be questioned.

The former striker scored 126 goals for the club, including one of the most important finishes in United’s history, poking in the winning goal against Bayern Munich in the 1999 Champions League final.
