Sir Jim Ratcliffe is said to have made a backup plan if his bid to gain majority control of Manchester United ultimately fails.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim have been engaged in a multiple-month battle to take control of Manchester United – with nine bids being made between the two parties.

A few weeks ago, reports suggested that Ratcliffe had become the bidder that the Glazer family were more likely to accept, however, Monday evening saw breaking news from Qatar that claimed the Sheikh’s fifth and final bid had tipped the scales.

It was reported that the Qatari had won the race to acquire Erik ten Hag’s club, with a fellow businessman even tweeting a public congratulations to the Sheikh.

It has now been said by L’Equipe that should Ratcliffe leave the bidding process empty-handed, he has created a backup plan for the money initially allocated to United.

The French outlet claim that the other club that Jim Ratcliffe owns, OG Nice, is currently being affected by the takeover as they lack summer transfer window funding – but should Ratcliffe not succeed in his bid, he is planning to use the money to reinvest in the French club.

Ratcliffe’s money is currently tied up in his United bid, but if this is rejected, then it will free it up to put pack into Nice – the club want to bring in four or five players this window.

Only time will tell whose bid has been officially accepted.
