Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand says that Sheikh Jassim’s bid for the club is going to be accepted amid an ‘imminent’ takeover.

The latest offer from Qatar came last week, which was said to have initiated a ‘breakthrough’ according to insiders, as reported by takeover expert Mike Keegan.

This comes shortly after English media dispelled rumours from Qatar of the takeover supposedly being complete.

Ferdinand, 44, says that the deal will be completed soon and extends his belief that the deal is the right one for United.

“The Man United takeover is imminent. We’re hearing the Qatari bid has been the one that’s taken over, it’s the one that is going to be accepted and the one that will go through,” he stated on his YouTube channel.

“Hallelujah man, we can’t wait. Please let this happen, please let it be true. Look how look this has gone on for, the Glazers have dug their heels in, and they seem like the biggest bidder. The person that bids the most money will get the club, which is normal in negotiations but they’ve certainly dragged their heels.”

The Glazer family have been in charge at Old Trafford since 2005 after completing a highly leveraged takeover which lumped debt onto the club. An approach that is no longer viable after recent Premier League changes.

“I just wanted this to be sorted out and resolved before the transfer window really kicks in,” added Ferdinand. “We’re getting to that point now, with the transfer window open and moves starting to develop, and there’s big stuff going on.

“But the takeover from the Qatari’s is something that we’ve been waiting for a long time. We’re hearing that it’s close, within a matter of days it will happen, if not hours. Fingers crossed that it is right, I’ve got it from a good source that it is true.”
