Serie A side Napoli are aiming to make a transfer swoop for one Manchester United star and it’s being considered as a “delusional” move.

Napoli are reportedly eyeing a move for Willy Kambwala from Manchester United this summer in their quest to fill the gap left by Kim Min-jae.

According to Dot Sport, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is keen to lure the young defender away from Old Trafford.

Following the departure of Kim to Bayern Munich last summer, Napoli have felt the void and are determined to find a suitable replacement.

The report added that Kambwala’s impressive breakthrough season at United has caught the attention of Napoli’s decision-makers, who are considering initiating negotiations with United during the upcoming transfer window.

Kambwala has made eight appearances for The Reds this term and most recently made his second start against Liverpool at Old Trafford.

The 2-2 draw was an exciting spectacle, and the French defender was a standout performer for United on the day, keeping Darwin Nunez quiet.

Sport Witness labelled the interest in Kambwala from Napoli as “delusional” with a loan deal being a more realistic option depending on the moves INEOS make in the summer window.

The report stated: “They might sanction a loan deal depending on what signings are made in the summer, but that’s a big if at this point.

“And Napoli’s interest, and belief they could get the player, may be a little bit delusional at this point. If it isn’t, it can certainly be classified as ambitious.”

The futures of Raphaël Varane, Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelöf are all in doubt after the season ends.

This makes it seem even more unlikely that United would sanction a departure for the highly-rated teenager.
