Rúben Amorim names five Manchester United stars who “need to improve”, fires sharp warning
Rúben Amorim has named the five Manchester United stars who he feels need to improve in order for the club to score more goals.
Manchester United‘s lack of goals this season has been well-documented. The side have scored just 13 goals in their 12 Premier League games this season and only seven in their four Europa League games.
Twelve of the club’s 32 goals this season have come in just two Carabao Cup fixtures against Barnsley and Leicester City.

It has been a topic of conversation that has surrounded Rúben Amorim since he joined the side as the club’s new head coach, with United failing to create many clear-cut chances during their opening draw with Ipswich Town under the new boss.
The side have been linked with a new striker across the last few weeks, with attacking options such as Omar Marmoush and Victor Boniface, as well as Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyökeres all swirling the rumour mill.
Amorim’s warning
Amorim was asked about the lack of goals at United during his pre-match press conference ahead of the club’s tie against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday evening.
Asked if he feels the lack of goals was a concern, Amorim said: “Of course, there is a concern in that. But I think we have to improve as a team because we have quality players that can score so many goals.
“You can feel it in the second half [against Ipswich] we controlled the possession of the ball, but we were not dangerous. Maybe because we spent the week trying to work on build-up, and then the rest was not working. So we will try to improve as a team.”
However, the 39-year-old did name five Manchester United players he feels must improve over the coming months to pull the club out of its scoring slump.
He explained that Rasmus Højlund, Joshua Zirkzee, Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, and Amad Diallo must become sharper before the opposition’s net. However, he also admitted that the team must improve as a whole to get the club into these scoring positions.
“Rasmus, and Josh, and Rash will score more goals,” Amorim explained. “Even Bruno has to score more goals. Amad has to be better near the goal.
“All these guys need to improve, and we can score so many goals. [You are asking] if I need a new striker to score goals, [but] we need to improve as a team, and these players can score more goals.”
