Manchester United are considering a shock player-plus-cash deal for Sporting hero Viktor Gyokeres next summer.

Ruben Amorim arrived at Manchester United on Monday afternoon to officially begin his role as head coach at Old Trafford.

He was welcomed at the Carrington training ground by key football operations staff, including Omar Berrada, Jason Wilcox, and Dan Ashworth.

With two weeks until his first Premier League game against Ipswich Town, Amorim has valuable time to prepare the squad behind the scenes.

However, the new head coach has already been rumoured to be wanting to sign some of his Sporting players, including Viktor Gyokeres, who has scored 23 goals already this season.

According to Mark Brus of the Daily Briefing, the Reds are prepared to make their move ahead of the summer for Gyokeres and will offer a player as well as a sum of cash.

Joshua Zirkzee is the player who United would be looking to move on, the report reveals, despite the Dutchman having only moved to Old Trafford four months ago.

He has had a difficult start to life in Manchester, having scored just one goal in 17 appearances for his new club.

The report claimed that a move to Sporting is being considered as a ‘serious option’ for the 23-year-old, while he has also been linked with a return to Italy.

Prior reports have claimed that Sporting have a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with Gyokeres to let him leave for around £60 million next summer.

United signed Zirkzee for just over £34 million but his value is currently falling with his struggles in the Premier League.

Despite potential rivalry for the signing of the 26-year-old from the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea, United would have a clear advantage while Amorim is at the helm.

Gyokeres had a brilliant relationship with the Portuguese boss during his time at Sporting and while Amorim admitted he would not go after the star striker in January, he did not rule out a summer move.

Although, it remains likely that Amorim will give the current United squad the chance to impress him in these first months, including Zirkzee.

Rasmus Højlund has also been tipped to enjoy his time under Amorim, but many people are of the opinion that another centre-forward is needed.
