Rúben Amorim has admitted that he cannot wait to coach Manchester United at Old Trafford as the club take on Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League.

Rúben Amorim is set to lead Manchester United for the second time on Thursday evening, following a 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town in his debut match.

The Europa League meeting with Bodo/Glimt will be Amorim’s first game at Old Trafford since his arrival earlier this month.

United are currently 15th in the Europa League standings, sitting three points outside the top eight spots that secure automatic qualification for the next round.

With three draws and a single win so far in the competition, United must make significant progress in their remaining four group-stage matches to avoid the play-off round before the knockout stages next year.

Amorim’s “special” feeling

In his pre-match press conference on Wednesday afternoon, Amorim was asked how he feels ahead of leading United out at Old Trafford for the first time.

Althuogh he admitted it is a special occasion, he is focusing on the tie purely from an objective view, explaining that it is just another one of many fixtures he will take on as United’s new boss.

“It will be a special time. I just want to win the game,” he said. “Before the match, it will be like a new sensation. After the whistle, it will just be another game.

“We have a lot of games and we are in the beginning of something. We will try to win every game, not just focus on this game and have a clear of idea of how to play.”

Amorim’s XI hint

Despite being reasonably coy about his plans to face Bodo/Glimt, Amorim admitted that he will have to change the starting XI that faced Ipswich when his team lines up on Thursday evening.

Amorim has been open in admitting that he will have to make a lot of changes during his opening weeks as head coach. He needs to maximise his players’ training time and implement his new system as soon as possible.

Any delays to the length of training time would, therefore, hinder this, as the players need to recover after a game.

“They [the squad] is already split,” he explained. “If Bruno trains tomorrow, he cannot train for two days. He can only train slowly. Some of the guys will field the game, some of the guys will train the next day.”
