Ruben Amorim is already prepared for a ‘difficult’ challenge at Manchester United which ended up hurting Erik ten Hag.

Ruben Amorim is the new Manchester United head coach and will take charge of his first game against Ipswich Town after the international break.

The ex-Sporting manager ended his tenure in Portugal with back-to-back wins against Manchester City and his former side Braga.

He now has a huge challenge awaiting for him at Old Trafford, with the team far away from where he will want them to be.

Amorim prepared for difficult challenge

Amorim is not only thinking about how he needs to impact the team on the pitch, but also how to deal with the pressures of being United boss off it.

The 39-year-old recently explained that he would not be reading any media about him or United in the first six months of his tenure.

Now, he has stated that he will be changing his approach in press conferences. He acknowledges that he needs to be ‘smart’ while speaking to those who are patiently waiting for slip up.

“Yes, I’m prepared,” he replied when asked about the English media. “Obviously, the speech won’t be so… I’ll have to think about the words. I’ll have a lot more difficulty.

“I won’t be able to say… the [press] conferences I have there will be much more basic. But everyone says that, living there, a person learns very fast. But obviously I’ll have a lot more difficulty.

“I’ll have to be smart and go slowly. Even because the press is different. They’re always waiting. It’s an exception for everyone, it’s the club that is most talked about there.

“I’m aware of that. But I won’t have many problems. If they’re going to say good or bad. You know how it is.”

Ten Hag suffered in the media

While Erik ten Hag was ultimately sacked due to performances on the pitch, he did not help himself with how he handled himself in the media.

At times, you felt sorry for him. He was interrogated by Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher within weeks of his arrival in 2022 and never seemed entirely comfortable while speaking to journalists in the press.

This was one of the reasons which made some supporters lose faith in the Dutchman and it is clear that Amorim appreciates the importance of dealing with the press in the right way.

It seems like Amorim has all of the communication tools needed, but you will only really know once the pressure starts heating up while he’s in the job.
