Gary Neville and Roy Keane agree on “lucky” Man United moment vs Chelsea
Gary Neville and Roy Keane have agreed on one “lucky” moment for Manchester United in their draw against Chelsea on the weekend.
Manchester United managed to claim a point in their home match against Chelsea on Sunday evening, despite taking the lead with 20 minutes left.
Bruno Fernandes scored a penalty after Rasmus Højlund won the foul, but The Blues equalised just five minutes later through Moisés Caicedo.
United remain in 13th place, marking their worst-ever start to a Premier League season after 10 games.
Nonetheless, Ruud van Nistelrooy might find some positives in the result, given Chelsea’s strong form this season and United’s ongoing struggles.
Keane and Neville agree on red card incident
In the final minutes of the game, Lisandro Martínez put in a high challenge on Cole Palmer in the middle of the pitch.
Referee Robert Jones decided that the incident deserved a yellow card and VAR agreed with him after looking back at the foul.
However, former United captain Gary Neville was in complete disagreement with the decision and believed that Martínez should have seen a straight red card.
“When you go that high, I think you’re asking for a red card,” Neville said on commentary.
“I think he’s lucky. When you go knee-high and the ball’s gone, I think it’s a red.”
He was not the only ex-United player to speak against the decision. Roy Keane shared the same opinion as his former teammate and suggested that there ‘would’ve been no complaints’ if the United defender was sent off.
“There would have been no complaints. He won’t be happy with Palmer making a fool of him,” Keane added.
“It’s a nasty challenge. But he doesn’t catch him properly. It’s down the side of his leg. If he had got sent off, there would have been no complaints.”
