Ruben Amorim and Jason Wilcox have discussed “ideal” Man Utd midfield target, reveals Fabrizio Romano

Manchester United are planning to strengthen in midfield as well as the frontline in the upcoming summer transfer window.

It’s evident that Manchester United’s squad requires significant upgrades across multiple positions, with several signings anticipated this summer.

Matheus Cunha and Liam Delap have emerged as key targets to reinforce Ruben Amorim’s misfiring attack at Old Trafford.

The club also plans to strengthen the midfield and wingback areas, while a number of player sales are expected to help fund these new arrivals.

Jason Wilcox is leading the club’s recruitment strategy alongside Christopher Vivell, and they have been speaking to Amorim about potential targets.

Amorim and Wilcox have discussed Ederson as ideal United target

Christian Eriksen is expected to leave at the end of the season and Casemiro’s future is also up in the air, which would leave the Reds weak in the middle.

One of the main midfielders being linked to United is Atalanta star Ederson and the club have already made contact with his representatives.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who has explained that the likes of Wilcox have met to speak about targets, and Ederson was identified as an “ideal candidate” to strengthen the engine room.

“Man United already made contact a few months ago with the player’s camp to show their interest, along with more Premier League clubs, with the race considered absolutely open,” Romano told GiveMeSport.

“In this recent meeting taking place at United, Ederson was discussed as one of the ideal candidates for the position due to his energy, quality, ability to score goals and provide assists, but also his excellent skill in terms of running everywhere around the pitch to help the team in key moments.

“All of this perfectly describes the ideal player for Ruben Amorim, so basically what he built at Sporting before signing for United.”

Ederson deal could depend on Champions League football

United are quite fortunate that a deal for Cunha does not seem to depend on them qualifying for the Champions League next term.

However, with competition for the signing of Ederson, it seems like winning the Europa League will end up playing an “important role” in whether United can attract him this summer.

“The understanding is that the contract in terms of salary would not be an issue for Ederson,” Romano continued.

“But Champions League football can play an important role in this story as there are several clubs keen on the Brazilian and that’s why nothing is going to be decided immediately.”
