Roy Keane has already addressed Graham Potter’s Man United chances amid rumours
Roy Keane has already made his opinion on Graham Potter clear amid reported interest in the manager from Manchester United.
Potter, 42, was sacked by Chelsea in April after only seven months in charge of the West London-based club and is currently available for a job.
Erik ten Hag is under pressure at Old Trafford following a difficult start to his second season in charge at the club. His United side crashed out of Europe after finishing bottom of their Champions League group.
Once Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos take over the footballing operations of the club, it is thought that Graham Potter is the main choice to take over Ten Hag if they believe a change is needed.
It is believed that Ineos chief Sir Dave Brailsford pushed hard for the English manager to become Nice’s next boss in the summer before being overruled.
Roy Keane has previously expressed his admiration for Potter, when he was early into his Chelsea tenure, as he named the former Brighton head coach as one of the top three managers in the Premier League.
The ex-United captained named Potter alongside Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola and Brentford boss Thomas Frank.
Explaining his choices on Sky Sports, Keane said: “Managers I like? I’ve always had loads of time for Pep. I think what he does to his teams… I know people say he always works with the best players at the biggest clubs with the biggest budgets – blah, blah, blah – but he still has to work with them, manage them and find a style of play.
“I like Brentford’s manager, Thomas Frank, I like him. I like the way he comes across. Even when they were in the Championship, I came across him. A really good guy.
“And I like Graham Potter at Chelsea. I like the way his teams play, I like the way he comes across in the media, I’m delighted he’s got a chance at a big club like Chelsea.
“There’s all this talk about if he can manage a big club and big egos and all this, but give the man a chance. He’s settled in really well.
“Every time he speaks in interviews, I think he comes across really well. So those are the three for me.”
