Chelsea player fumes at decision during Man United loss and makes wild claim
Chelsea defender Levi Colwill has claimed that Premier League officials are ‘against’ him after losing 2-1 against Manchester United.
Erik ten Hag’s side were deserved winners on the evening despite the scoreline suggesting a close affair.
The Reds were dominant against Chelsea as they managed to bounce back following an embarrassing result and performance against Newcastle on the weekend.
Scott McTominay bagged a brace for the hosts at Old Trafford, with his second goal coming midway through the second half.
The Scotsman leapt at the back post to meet Alejandro Garnacho’s pinpoint cross. However, it was Chelsea captain Colwill on the floor following McTominay’s run.
Colwill was not strong enough to deal with United’s midfielder, and despite his calls for VAR to check a foul, nothing was given for the soft contact.
Yet, the defender was upset with the decision after the game and has made the wild claim that VAR is working against him at the moment, despite bringing up a moment where VAR, in fact, saved a mistake from the on-field referee when he faced former club Brighton.
The ball struck Colwill in the face, and the on-field official rewarded a Brighton penalty before VAR correctly intervened.
“VAR has something against me right now, I don’t know what I’ve done to them,” Colwill told Chelsea’s club media.
“Against Brighton, they tried to give a pen, and then when I got pulled [by McTominay] they didn’t give anything. If I had pulled him like that, they would have given a penalty. It is what it is.
“It was a frustrating night. We had chances that, if we’d taken, would have made the game quite different, but it’s part of the game, and we’ll move on from it come the weekend against Everton.”
