Rumours linking FC Barcelona centre-back Andreas Christensen with both Manchester United and Newcastle in January have been labelled as “Pure fabrication”.

Manchester United are scouring the transfer market for the possible recruitment of a new central defender either in January or the summer, with Erik ten Hag short-staffed in the department and facing possible departures.

Both Jonny Evans and Raphaël Varane are due to run out of contract this coming summer, with Victor Lindelöf only having 18 months left on his current deal and both Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martínez recovering from injury.

With this in mind, United have been linked to multiple names, such as Jean-Claire Todibo, but one man who will not be heading to Old Trafford any time soon is FC Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen.

There have been murmurs from Spain that Barcelona are planning on selling Christensen after picking him up on a free contract 18 months ago, with both United and Newcastle interested, but Danish outlet Tipsbladet have strongly denied the reports.

They describe them as “Pure fabrication”, claiming that the Danish international “is not going anywhere” in January, with both the player and club happy with the current situation.

United have recently been linked to another Dane in the form of Morten Hjulmand, where reports claim that the club offered Facundo Pellistri as part of a swap deal to Sporting, but this was rejected.

With Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Højlund both plying their trade at Old Trafford, United have been linked to a number of Danish players of late, with Ten Hag keen to make sure that all his players can speak a common language. Denmark has a history of strong English speakers.
