Manchester United return to action after a two-week break as they face Newport County in the FA Cup on Sunday evening.

Last time out, Erik ten Hag‘s men drew 2-2 with Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford after Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Højlund‘s goals were not enough to earn Manchester United all three points in the Premier League two weeks ago.

After defeating Wigan Athletic 2-0 in the third round of the competition, Erik ten Hag will be looking to make sure his side secure their place in the next round of the FA Cup.

Team news

Erik ten Hag will have almost every player at his disposal, bar a few missing the tie.

Casemiro and Lisandro Martínez are available for the game after returning to the matchday squad against Tottenham, but United have two fresh doubts.

“It’s a strong side, and we still have some injuries, like [Victor] Lindelof and [Tyrell] Malacia,” the manager told MUTV.

“This morning, Rashford was ill, and Evans was ill. So we have to see how they recover, but we have, for the rest, players returning, like Martinez, like Shaw, like Maguire, like Casemiro, which is a good thing.”

A new debut

Altay Bayındır will start his first game for the club on Sunday evening after Erik ten Hag confirmed that he will cover for André Onana in goal.

“What we can expect from him is he waits for his chance, but he is experienced, played in a big club in Turk under big pressure, he knows how to deal with it, we were convinced,” Ten Hag said on Friday.

“We are looking forward to Sunday. Altay is waiting for this moment, and this is his moment.”
