Manchester United have been boosted with the return of two players as they prepare to face Newport County in the FA Cup fourth round.

Erik ten Hag‘s Manchester United squad looks like they are slowly getting back to full fitness after a series of injuries has hampered the first half of the club’s 2023/24 season.

Consistent injuries have played a part in the club crashing out of both the Carabao Cup and Champions League, as well as sitting eighth in the Premier League table.

Key injuries to the likes of Lisandro Martínez, Luke Shaw, and Casemiro have left the club without the solid spine that allowed Ten Hag to bring home the Carabao Cup trophy last season – but all three players are now expected to be fit to face Newport on Sunday.

After Cameroon qualified for the last 16 of AFCON, regular goalkeeper André Onana will not be available for selection, meaning that Altay Bayındır will be handed his first start since signing for United in the summer.

In defence, both Shaw and Harry Maguire have returned to training for the first time since December, while Martínez also made his return to the pitch during United’s last game, against Tottenham Hotspur almost two weeks ago. Victor Lindelöf has also returned but is not expected to be involved against Newport.

In midfield, Sofyan Amrabat is also unavailable due to AFCOM commitments, while Mason Mount is not expected to play a part in the squad despite returning to training earlier this month.

Casemiro may make his first appearance since 1 November against Newcastle United after he was an unused substitute against Spurs.

In attack, Anthony Martial has been ruled out for ten weeks after undergoing a successful groin operation, and Marcus Rashford and Jonny Evans are doubts after they reported ill and missed training on Friday morning.

Facundo Pellistri is due to complete a six-month loan move to Grenada in the coming days, while Jadon Sancho was recently shipped out on loan to Borussia Dortmund.

The only current absentee for Newport is central defender Josh Seberry.
