Newcastle United are in pursuit of a former Manchester United star, who had recently been linked with a £70million move back to Old Trafford.
Heading into the final quarter of the Premier League season, Manchester United are well on track to secure a UEFA Champions League spot for next season as they currently sit fourth in the league.
Michael Carrick has managed to turn the Reds’ fortunes around since his arrival, accumulating an impressive 16 points from his first six league games as the interim manager.
With a return to Europe almost a formality for the Red Devils now, Carrick’s side will need to invest to bolster their squad to compete in four separate competitions.
United, however, aren’t alone in their bids to strengthen their midfield department, as Newcastle United may be looking in the direction of a former Red Devil, who has seriously impressed since leaving Old Trafford.
McTominay linked with Magpie move
Since leaving Old Trafford in 2024 to join Napoli in Serie A, Scott McTominay has looked transformed and has grown into an incredibly well-regarded goal-scoring midfielder.
The Scottish midfielder is now being linked with a move back to England, with Newcastle reportedly keen on the 29-year-old, as stated by Caught Offside.
Following a nomination in the 2025 Ballon d’Or, McTominay has grown into one of Europe’s hottest talents, and could demand a fee in the region of £70million.
Eddie Howe’s side are looking to pursue the signature of the dynamic box-to-box star in the summer, amid speculation that Sandro Tonali could depart the Magpies.
United rumoured with reunion
It was previously reported by Tutto Mercato, via UtdDistrict, that McTominay is considering a move away from Naples, and his former side are ‘leading the way’ regarding his acquisition.
The Reds have been linked with the likes of Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton as they seek a replacement for their veteran midfielder, Casemiro, although McTominay would likely provide depth further up the pitch.

It was stated in this report that the Scotsman would like to return to the English top-flight ‘sooner rather than later’ with him now entering the prime years of his career.
With rumours surrounding Manuel Ugarte’s exit continuing to persist, the return of McTominay could be an exciting proposition as the Reds aim to build a squad fit to compete on all fronts.
