Marseille receive Mason Greenwood blow despite £26m Manchester United agreement
Marseille have reportedly agreed a fee of around £26 million with Manchester United for the transfer of Mason Greenwood, but they have since received a blow.
INEOS are looking to offload as many fringe and outcast players as possible this summer, with Manchester United needing to raise significant funds for the 2024 transfer market.
Mason Greenwood and Jadon Sancho are almost certain to leave after their exiles from the club last season, and others like Scott McTominay and Victor Lindelöf could follow.

Multiple reports on Tuesday afternoon broke the news that United had agreed a fee of around £26 million with Marseille Greenwood. The agreement included a sell-on clause of around 50%, while United also retained the right to buy further percentages of his sale should they choose to do so.
However, although a fee has been agreed, Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has stated that Greenwood has yet to accept the terms that the Ligue 1 outfit has offered, meaning the transfer is far from complete.
Further, Di Marzio has explained that, despite Marseille’s agreement, Lazio are looking to take advantage of the fact that talks between Greenwood’s representatives and Marseille were “on hold” throughout Wednesday.
Reportedly, talks have “slowed down” after the Mayor of Marseille, Benoît Payan, spoke out against the transfer, claiming he would tell the French club to cancel their deal.
Lazio are now looking to “overtake” Marseille in their agreement, which is a huge blow to the Ligue 1 side despite their agreement on a transfer fee – although it was stated that Marseille are ready to sign Greenwood regardless of Payan’s words.
However, it is crucial that Lazio match Marseille’s bid or even provide an improved offer; otherwise, United will likely not accept any of their proposals.
