Manchester United loanee Mason Greenwood has provided a rare interview after winning Getafe’s Player of the Month award for December.

Greenwood, 21, helped the Spanish team to impressive wins against Sevilla and Valencia, as well as a resolute 3-3 draw with Atletico Madrid which attracted praise from Antoine Griezmann.

The forward moved to Getafe on a year-long loan move after it was confirmed by United that he would not restart his career at Old Trafford.

Despite the CPS dropping all charges in a domestic abuse investigation against Greenwood, the damage had been done as United fans protested against his return, with the club ultimately deciding to send him out on loan on deadline day.

He has scored five goals and registered four assists so far this term and has opened up on adapting to life at his new club in Spain.

“Everything’s fine, I adapted pretty quickly. My team-mates took me under their wing and I’ve just been happy ever since coming here, training and playing the games,” Greenwood told Getafe’s club media.

“The fans mean a lot to me. The best feeling so far is when I scored my first goal here at the stadium and it meant a lot to me, I heard the fans quite a lot.

“Also, we had the training day, and a lot of fans came out and watched, so we always appreciate the fans; they’re like an extra man out there on the pitch when they’re out there supporting us.”

Getafe are sitting eighth in the La Liga table at the halfway point of the season and are just six points away from a potential European spot for next season.

Asked about the team’s chances of at least reaching the UEFA Conference League, Greenwood added: “Yeah, that’s always a possibility. The coach reminds us of it, and we all have an idea of it, but we have to take it one game at a time, but that’s the end result we want to achieve.”
