Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood played a key role in Getafe’s 3-3 draw against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday evening.

The loanee moved to Spain in the summer following an announcement from the club that he would not restart his career at Old Trafford.

The United academy graduate was arrested on charges of domestic violence in January 2022, although the player denied these claims, and eventually, the case was dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Playing in La Liga, Greenwood has restarted his footballing career with Getafe, who sit in eighth place and are having a positive campaign so far.

They are currently four points away from sixth place and potential European football for next season, and their most recent game ended in a valiant draw against title-chasing Atletico Madrid.

Getafe scored two late goals to secure the point after being 3-1 down, with two goals coming from Atletico’s top scorer and former World Cup winner Antoine Griezmann.

Greenwood played a key role in two of Getafe’s goals on the night and played an impressive overall game that led to praise from Griezmann after full-time.

“Greenwood hurt us a lot,” the Frenchman said, according to the Daily Star. “We couldn’t stop him at the end of the game, and two goals came.”

The 21-year-old forward has scored three goals so far this season and registered four assists. Greenwood’s manager, José Bordalás, has also praised his adaption into the La Liga outfit.

“He hadn’t played for many months. He has had a hard time reaching his best physical level (but) he has the talent,” he told Cope.

“Adapting to a new league, new teammates, a language… he has integrated very well. (I am) very happy. His team-mates help him a lot.

“As I always say, our strength is the group and the collective.”
